Baseball Recap: Mater Dei's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Mater Dei and West Ranch squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Mater Dei had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-0. The shutout was out of character for the Monarchs seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

Mater Dei got a good showing from Landon Gordon, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Mater Dei saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lawson Olmstead, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

With the defeat, Mater Dei broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-14. As for West Ranch, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-9 record this season.

Mater Dei will challenge Crespi at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Monarchs 3.3, the Celts 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. West Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
