Basketball Recap: Queen's Grant Beats Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy for Their 12th Straight Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Queen's Grant rose to the challenge on Friday. They secured a 72-66 W over the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons. Winning may never get old, but the Stallions sure are getting used to it with their 12th in a row.

Queen's Grant was led to victory by Misa Garris and Za'Miya Bynum. Garris shot 48% from the field en route to 27 points and five assists, while Bynum went 11-for-20 on her way to 27 points and five steals. Garris is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Casey Smith, who posted seven points in addition to five boards and four blocks.

Despite the loss, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy had strong showings from Brooklyn Twitty, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 19 rebounds, and Samara Jones, who put up 24 points along with eight boards and five steals. That was a full 36.4% of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row Jones has earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Hargro, who scored eight points and six rebounds.

Queen's Grant's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.2 points on average over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, with the defeat, they broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 20-7.

Queen's Grant wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 74-56 loss against Bishop McGuinness on the 4th. Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
