League recap: Homme breaks off league-leading run for Cleveland

5A District 1 recap September 17, 2013

Cleveland's Kian Homme recorded the longest rushing play in 5A District 1 this season in his game against Onate last week. Homme ran for 59 yards on the play and finished with 83 on the day as his team beat the Knights.

Cibola was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Las Cruces. The Cougars came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.

Homme and Nieto Jesse gave Cleveland a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Homme threw for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Jesse ran for 149 yards. Andre LiRosi also contributed to the rushing game with 126 yards on the ground.

Homme and Jesse gave Heath Ridenour's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.

Elijah Winfield was the best wideout in the league this week as Cibola fell to the Bulldawgs. Winfield racked up 2 receptions for 55 yards. Blair Manly helped Cibola's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 42 yards.

Homme put up the best numbers through the air as the Storm bested Onate. Homme's favorite target this week was LiRosi, who caught 2 passes for 35 yards.

Marcell Powdrell made the biggest impact on defense this week as Rod Williams' team fell to Las Cruces. The 5-foot-10 junior.

Jesse was the best running back in the league this week.

Thanks to the talents of Homme and Jesse, Cleveland has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Homme is tops in the league in passing with 466 yards, while Jesse has rushed for 489 yards this season. Tops in the league in receving yards is the Cougars' Winfield, with 141 yards on 3 catches.

The Storm took down Caleb Hull's team 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Homme in the win.
