Basketball Recap: Wellington Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

Wellington won the last time they faced Brookside, and Mackenzie Jerousek did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wellington Dukes walked away with a 48-40 win over the Brookside Cardinals on Saturday thanks in part to Jerousek, who posted 14 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Another player making a difference was Brooke Lehmkuhl, who had 13 points and six rebounds. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Brookside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Diaz, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. Brianna Slaughter was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Wellington's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Brookside, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Wellington will head out to challenge New London at 6:00 p.m. on December 30th. As for Brookside, they will host Open Door Christian at 5:30 p.m. on December 28th.
