Softball Recap: Millington's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Millington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Caro Tigers a 12-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Morgan Matusik made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, Kamyrn Blackmer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Reese Holmes also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Millington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Millington's record now sits at 10-5. As for Caro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Millington will square off against Escanaba at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Caro, they will venture away from home to face off against Morrice at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
