Preview: Stafford Spartans vs. Brazosport Exporters

Stafford is 6-1 against Brazosport since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Stafford Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Brazosport Exporters at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Stafford pushed their score all the way to 31 two Fridays ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 38-31 to Iowa Colony. Despite 112 more yards than Iowa Colony, Stafford couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kamare Shorts, who threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Another player making a difference was Jamaal Wiley, who gained 166 total yards.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Brazosport, who are still winless after their seventh contest. They took a serious blow against Iowa Colony two Fridays ago, falling 48-7. While losing is never fun, Brazosport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 830th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 148th).

This is the second loss in a row for Stafford and nudges their season record down to 3-3. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points per game. As for Brazosport, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7.

Stafford beat Brazosport 14-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Brazosport's Randon Fontenette, who rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Stafford to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
