The Pine River-Backus Tigers will square off against the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pine River-Backus faced off against Laporte on Monday. The Tigers came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 9-4.

Andrew Volk made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Gage Parkin was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Pine River-Backus is undefeated when Parkin posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Owen Dabill was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Pine River-Backus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Tigers 13-3. Considering the Wolves have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Pine River-Backus' victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
