Basketball Recap: Montrose Red Hawks vs. Grand Junction Tigers

The Montrose Red Hawks fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Grand Junction Tigers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 40-38. Montrose was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Montrose's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brekin Hutto, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Ferguson, who scored 11 points along with two steals.

Montrose struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Montrose's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Grand Junction, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Montrose will stay at home for another game and welcome the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Fruita Monument will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for Grand Junction, they will head out on the road to square off against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Coal Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
