Baseball Recap: Amundsen Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Amundsen rose to the challenge on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Prosser Falcons. The Vikings not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 16-1).

Ben Weihing looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Pierce Bakker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Amundsen is 4-1 when Bakker posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-21-1 otherwise. Bennett Newman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Amundsen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory (which was Amundsen's third in a row) raised their record to 12-22-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Prosser, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Amundsen will take on DePaul College Prep at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. Prosser does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
