Baseball Preview: Maine South Hawks vs. Prospect Knights
The Maine South Hawks will square off against the Prospect Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Things were looking good for Maine South after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-4 to Lincoln-Way East.
Maine South saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eric Fugate, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Fugate a new career-high. Peter Corthinos also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Prospect not only won last Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 22, 2024. They put the hurt on Sunlake with a sharp 15-5 win. Prospect's victory was all the more impressive since the Seahawks were averaging only 3.93 runs allowed on the season.
Prospect let Aiden Nelson and Louie Caldrone run wild. Nelson scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5, while Caldrone scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Matt Fouch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Prospect kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
