Volleyball Game Preview: Volcano Vista Hawks vs. Las Cruces Bulldawgs

The Volcano Vista Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Las Cruces Bulldawgs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Volcano Vista is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

Volcano Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Albuquerque Academy, who was ranked 14th at the time (Volcano Vista was ranked 17th). The Hawks were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Chargers on Thursday.

While Volcano Vista won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-19, 26-24.

Ava Wrolstad and Railey Maestas were among the main playmakers for Volcano Vista as the former had 19 assists and one block and the latter had four digs and one block. Wrolstad is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last 16 games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Las Cruces earned a 3-1 win over La Cueva on Saturday. The Bulldawgs haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Volcano Vista's record now sits at 7-4. As for Las Cruces, their record is now 10-0.

Volcano Vista might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Las Cruces when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
