Basketball Recap: Tornillo Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Tornillo won against Immanuel Christian on Friday with 53 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Coyotes snuck past the Fort Hancock Mustangs with a 53-48 win. The Coyotes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Fort Hancock's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Inaki Arriaga, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 14 points. Another player making a difference was Patrick Hernandez, who posted ten points.

Tornillo's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6. As for Fort Hancock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Coming up, Fort Hancock will be taking part in a tournament against Rankin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Tornillo will be paying especially close attention to the Mustangs' contest: after the Mustangs face off against the Red Devils, they'll take on Tornillo again at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
