Recap: Payson Longhorns vs. Holbrook Roadrunners

If the Payson Longhorns were feeling good off their 83-37 takedown of the Globe Tigers last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Payson fell just short of Holbrook by a score of 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Payson has suffered yet this season.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lizzy White, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. White is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Hannah Sarnowski was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with four steals.

Holbrook got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Noheah Aberle out in front who scored 11 points along with four steals. Aberle hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Raelle Yazzie, who scored nine points along with five assists and three steals.

Payson's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Holbrook, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson will take on Blue Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Blue Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Payson in Arizona (Blue Ridge is ranked 20th, while Payson is ranked 73rd). As for Holbrook, they will be playing at home against Winslow at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winslow is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
