Softball Recap: Doane Academy Has No Trouble Against Pennsauken

While Doane Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Pennsauken Indians 13-2 on Thursday. Considering Doane Academy has won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Raegan Portadin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Gusrang, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Brielle Perry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

The win made it two in a row for Doane Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Pennsauken, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Coming up, Doane Academy will take on Medford Tech at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Pennsauken, they will square off against Westampton Tech at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
