Baseball Recap: Vela Comes Up Short

Vela was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 8-1 to the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 last Tuesday.

Matthew Abundiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Vela's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for McAllen Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Vela will venture away from home to square off against McAllen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vela is facing McAllen at the right time seeing as McAllen is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for McAllen Memorial, they will welcome Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.83 runs per game on average), something McAllen Memorial will no doubt try to take advantage of.
