Football Game Preview: Wall Eagles vs. Howard Tigers

The Wall Eagles will take on the Howard Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. One thing working in Wall's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

Wall is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Philip 56-6. The Eagles' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Wall's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jace Mohr, who rushed for 200 yards and four scores on only 12 carries. Mohr really tore up the turf during one magnificent 87-yard run. Wall also got a significant boost from Tanner Volmer, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wall was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 316 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 199 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Wall didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Teelan Kjerstad was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Mohr got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Howard faced Alcester-Hudson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers snuck past the Cubs with an 18-12 victory. The score was all tied up 12-12 at the break, but the Tigers were the (much) better team in the second half.

Wall pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their offensive performance: the team's won by an average of 50.1 points thus far. As for Howard, their record is now 9-2.

Wall came up short against Howard in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 21-17. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
