Baseball Game Preview: Calallen Wildcats vs. El Campo Ricebirds

For the second straight game, Calallen will face off against El Campo. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ricebirds at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Calallen 1.3, El Campo 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Calallen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let El Campo get on the board and left with a 21-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 19 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Collier Carroll looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Jaydon Cruz was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Wyatt Duke was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Calallen hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 12 consecutive games.

Calallen's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 29-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for El Campo, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 20-9-1 record.
