Softball Recap: Oak Grove Triumphs

Oak Grove proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the North Davidson Black Knights 3-1. For the Grizzlies, this counts as revenge for the 7-1 win the Black Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Mary Peyton Hodge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chloe Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Lawrence, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Oak Grove is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for North Davidson and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Oak Grove has already played their next game, a 6-1 win against Ledford on the 25th. As for North Davidson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 20-0 victory against Asheboro on the 25th.
