Basketball Recap: Lamar Raiders vs. Leake Academy Rebels

After flying high against Wayne Academy last Tuesday, Lamar came back down to earth. The Lamar Raiders took a hard 61-47 fall against the Leake Academy Rebels on Saturday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 73-36 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Lamar still got an impressive performance from Aryah Grace, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Blake Hart, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.

Leake Academy was led to victory by Sarah Prince and Marleigh Myers. Prince posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Myers went 5 of 6 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. That's the most rebounds Prince has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Morgan Young, who had eight points.

Lamar's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Leake Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 25-0.

Lamar will take on Simpson Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leake Academy, they will head out to take on East Rankin Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leake Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.
