Softball Recap: Alpine Drops Season-High Score on Big Spring

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alpine). They blew past the Big Spring Steers 12-2 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bucks with their most commanding win of the season.

Kody Hawkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Zariah Galvan was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Kacy Hawkins was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Alpine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Alpine pushed their record up to 4-12 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Big Spring, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Alpine will take on Odessa at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Big Spring, they will square off against Colorado at 12:00 p.m. on March 15th.
