Softball Recap: Westwood Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Westwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Lyndhurst Golden Bears 4-3. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

Westwood got a great performance from Ella Ianni as she struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ianni has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caroline Rome was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Alesso, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Westwood and bumps their season record up to 11-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Lyndhurst, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Westwood will challenge Dwight Morrow at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lyndhurst, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against St. Mary at 4:00 p.m.
