Akron and Caliche are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Rams will venture away from home to take on the Buffaloes at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Akron will be strutting in after a victory while Caliche will be coming in after a loss.
Akron will bounce into Friday's match after beating Wiggins, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Rams put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-5 win on Thursday. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.
Tucker Stahn and Anderson Filla made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stahn struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Filla didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Stahn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stahn went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Filla scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most hits Stahn has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Akron got a massive performance out of Alex Bowin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Bowin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jax Kusel, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Caliche fell victim to Highland and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 13-0 to the Huskies. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Buffaloes' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Akron pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Caliche, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Akron took their victory against Caliche in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
