Softball Recap: Smithville Takes a Loss

Smithville came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Black River Pirates, falling 12-2. The contest marked the Smithies' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Caitlin Walsh-Knouff was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Kiersten Ross was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Black River, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Black River beat Smithville by a score of 14-4 later that day.
