Basketball Recap: Taylor County Takes a Loss

After soaring to 71 points the game before, Taylor County was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 57-24 loss at the hands of the Leon Lions. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-13.

Leon was led to victory by Noah Eckhart and Aaron Pensel. Eckhart went 8 of 10 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds, while Pensel dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. Pensel has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alphonza Gammons, who posted eight points.

Taylor County's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Leon, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-5.

Taylor County will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chiefland at 6:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Leon will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Orange Park at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
