Basketball Game Preview: Mays Raiders vs. Gadsden City Titans

The Mays Raiders will take on the Gadsden City Titans in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mays knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Gadsden City likes a good challenge.

Mays is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 101-41 victory over M.L. King. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Lions are ranked 344th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mays' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Davenport Cox, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and five rebounds. Cox's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Clayton Coppock was another key player, going 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points along with five assists and four steals.

Mays was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gadsden City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Hartselle by a score of 58-51 on Thursday.

Gadsden City is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Mays, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
