The Columbia River Rapids will head out on the road to take on the Heritage Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Columbia River is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Mark Morris just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monarchs. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Rapids couldn't push the score so high this time.
Heritage never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Evergreen on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Plainsmen. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Jaila Ellis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Jaleigh Zabel was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Skyler Jones was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Heritage lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Heritage's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8. As for Columbia River, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Columbia River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Columbia River couldn't quite get it done against Heritage in their previous matchup back in March of 2019 as they fell 4-0. Can the Rapids avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
