Baseball Recap: Highland's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Highland had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Pocahontas County Warriors on Thursday as the Highland Rams made off with a 17-4 victory. The Rams not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024.

Highland let Patton Hull and John Wagner run wild. Hull scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Wagner scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Hull a new career-high in runs. Tristan Carpenter was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pocahontas County only posted an OBP of .464.

The win got Highland back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Pocahontas County at 4:30 p.m. on March 27th. As for Pocahontas County, they are taking a road trip to challenge Braxton County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pocahontas County has now lost nine straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 22.
