Baseball Recap: Yorktown Takes a Loss

Yorktown extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-6 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Delta Eagles. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Yorktown got a good showing from Palmer Jones, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time Jones hasn't allowed a single earned run since April 3rd.

At the plate, Yorktown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Witt, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Witt has hit this season.

As for Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On Delta's side, Kaeb Stebbins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. Stebbins has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Coming up, Yorktown will host Wapahani at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Delta, they will head out to square off against Muncie Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
