Basketball Recap: Kannon Mcbride's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Croatan over West Carteret

If Croatan was riding high fresh off their 82-58 takedown of Richlands last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Croatan Cougars fell to the West Carteret Patriots 82-77. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kannon McBride, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. McBride's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Jones, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten boards.

It was another big night for Jack Bell, who went 13-for-22 to rack up 36 points and six rebounds for West Carteret. With that strong performance, Bell is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. Cameron Pavy was another key player, going 8-for-15 en route to 20 points and five steals.

Croatan's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for West Carteret, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Croatan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 matchups. As for West Carteret, they will challenge Swansboro at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Carteret is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season.
