Volleyball Recap: Pershing County Mustangs vs. North Tahoe Lakers

Pershing County entered their tilt with North Tahoe on Saturday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the North Tahoe Lakers. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Pershing County took North Tahoe into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 15-10.

Pershing County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raegan Burrows, who had 29 kills, 28 digs, and a block. Burrows is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in the last 23 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Montes, who had 33 digs, eight kills, and two aces.

North Tahoe's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Marlo Johnson, who had 29 digs, and Mishel Suarez, who had 13 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Suarez has posted since back in August.

Pershing County's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. As for North Tahoe, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-6 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Pershing County and Battle Mountain will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Tahoe, they will face off against Yerington at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are at an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but likely not for long.
