Softball Recap: Southwestern's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Platteville, Southwestern was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They never let the Darlington Redbirds get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-2 back in April.

The result came thanks to Morgan Muller's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Lewerke, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Southwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Southwestern's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12. As for Darlington, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Southwestern and Darlington could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Wildcats will square off against Cuba City at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (277 vs. 27). Meanwhile, Darlington (ranked 330th) will meet Iowa-Grant (ranked 161st) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
