High school football: Kentucky commit Stone Saunders breaks Pennsylvania career touchdown pass record

Stone Saunders of Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg) broke the Pennsylvania record for most touchdown passes Friday with his 177th scoring strike.

The Kentucky commit hit Dominic Diaz-Ellis for a 38-yard TD in the first quarter of McDevitt's game against winless Altoona. Saunders broke the mark set last year by Alex Erby of Steelton-Highspire (Steelton).

Saunders has thrown for more than 1,200 yards this season and the record-breaking touchdown was his 20th of the year. A four-year starter for Bishop McDevitt (4-1), he has thrown for more than 11,000 yards.

According to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book, Erby owns several other records that Saunders could threaten including career passing yards (13,567), career completions (773) and single-season touchdowns (61).

Saunders threw for 251 yards and six touchdowns Sept. 20 in a 56-7 win over Carlisle.
