Volleyball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

Franklin Academy came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Sagemont Prep Lions, falling 3-0. The Panthers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

While Franklin Academy ultimately came up short, they really made Sagemont Prep work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-10, 25-8.

Despite the loss, Franklin Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sofia Hernandez had 21 digs and one assist. Hernandez has been hot, having posted 20 or more digs the last seven times she's played. Mariangel Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Franklin Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Sagemont Prep, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Franklin Academy will welcome Somerset Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give Franklin Academy their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Sagemont Prep, they will face off against Everglades at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
