Preview: Wynot Blue Devils vs. St. Francis Flyers
Wynot is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while St. Francis is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wynot Blue Devils will take on the St. Francis Flyers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Wynot humbled Mullen with a 50-20 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-0.
Wynot's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chase Schroeder, who picked up 116 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Dylan Heine, who threw for 141 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.
Meanwhile, St. Francis blew past Axtell, posting a 42-8 win at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as St. Francis just coasted through the last quarter.
Ethan Wieseler and Carson Wessel were among the main playmakers for St. Francis as the former rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries and the latter rushed for 88 yards and three touchdowns. Wessel is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Their wins bumped Wynot to 9-0 and St. Francis to 9-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Wynot has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Francis struggles in that department as they've been even better at 212.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Wynot was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Francis when the teams last played back in September, winning 14-6. Will Wynot repeat their success, or does St. Francis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
