Game recap

PIERRE, S.D. - Brandon Valley (Brandon, S.D.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 7 in South Dakota, but was stunned by Riggs (Pierre, S.D.), 16-0. Riggs was ranked at No. 9 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for South Dakota coming into the week.

After taking the lead on an Ethan Case touchdown run in the first quarter, the Governors were up 10-0 at the half.

Riggs expanded its lead to 13 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored once in the quarter on a field goal by Garrett Pochop.

The loss snapped Brandon Valley's five-game winning streak.

The Pierre school came into the game allowing 16.7 points per game.

The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which the Lynx took, 41-17.

The victory was a step in the right direction for the Governors, who were coming off a 29-23 defeat at the hands of Yankton in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for Brandon Valley, which notched a 42-21 victory over Aberdeen Central in its previous outing.

In a Eastern South Dakota game next week Riggs (6-1) takes on Aberdeen Central, and Brandon Valley (5-2) will go up against Harrisburg also in a Eastern South Dakota game.
