The Merritt Island Mustangs will face off against the Sebastian River Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Merritt Island is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Titusville with a sharp 18-1 victory on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Elena Rollen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Gianna Elliott was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Merritt Island was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Sebastian River got themselves on the board against Lincoln Park Academy on Thursday, but Lincoln Park Academy never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Greyhounds. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sharks needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Sebastian River got a massive performance out of Rily Biggers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kiera Carow, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sebastian River's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-9. As for Merritt Island, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Merritt Island hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Sebastian River struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
