Baseball Recap: Riverdale Takes a Loss

Riverdale extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fennimore Golden Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Chieftains have lost by just one run.

Henry Drone was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Kagel, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

As for Fennimore, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Fennimore's side, Ethan Sheckler and Casey Dresen made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sheckler struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Dresen pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sheckler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sheckler went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Dresen went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brock Henkel, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Riverdale is taking a road trip to square off against Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fennimore, they will venture away from home to take on Cambridge at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
