Basketball Game Preview: Cloverleaf Colts vs. Orrville Red Riders

The Cloverleaf Colts will head out to challenge the Orrville Red Riders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cloverleaf has six straight wins, Orrville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

While Cloverleaf didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They really took it to Ravenna for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-18 victory. That looming 76-18 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Colts yet this season.

It was another big night for Saige Foky, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 18 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Barth, who posted ten points and seven steals.

Meanwhile, Orrville came up short against Canton South on Wednesday and fell 48-36. While losing is never fun, the Red Riders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 97th).

Cloverleaf's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.4 points. As for Orrville, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Cloverleaf took a serious blow against Orrville in their previous matchup back in February of 2019, falling 79-52. Can Cloverleaf avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
