Basketball Game Preview: Whitney Wildcats vs. Sunny Hills Lancers

The Whitney Wildcats and the Sunny Hills Lancers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Whitney will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating St. Margaret's, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Whitney took down St. Margaret's 66-51 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Sunny Hills sidestepped Fullerton for a 42-39 win. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Indians are ranked 442nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitney better focus on containing Ze'Brien Watkins and Kamron Tonga as the pair were huge in Sunny Hills' win. Watkins dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards, while Tonga dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Tonga a new career-high in rebounds.

The victory got Whitney back to even at 7-7. As for Sunny Hills, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-5.

Whitney was dealt a bruising 71-38 loss at the hands of Sunny Hills in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Whitney, Johann Kwon (who went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
