Eastern Montgomery has gone 6-1 against Bland County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Bears at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern Montgomery has four straight wins, Bland County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Eastern Montgomery's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Fleming with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Mary Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Macie Akers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Sam Brein was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Eastern Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Bland County lost 27-2 to Fort Chiswell on Tuesday.
Eastern Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Bland County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Bland County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastern Montgomery has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Bland County, though, as they've been averaging 14 hits. Given Eastern Montgomery's sizable advantage in that area, the Bears will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastern Montgomery took their victory against Bland County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
