Softball Recap: Proviso West Panthers vs. York Dukes
Proviso West had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-2 to make it eight. They lost 18-0 to the York Dukes. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Dukes from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
As for York, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For York's part, Myka Matykiewicz made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Matykiewicz was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, York got a massive performance out of Alexandra (Alex) ElEtr-Garofalo, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave ElEtr-Garofalo a new career-high. Morgen Balfanz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Proviso West is set to challenge their familiar foe Downers Grove North at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, York will face off against rival Lyons at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
