Basketball Recap: Plainfield's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Plainfield lost to Decatur Central back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Plainfield Quakers took down the Decatur Central Hawks 59-43. Given the Quakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Hawks are ranked 182nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Noah Smith was his usual excellent self, going 9 of 14 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Baker-Lands, who went 6 for 13 en route to 13 points and seven boards.

Plainfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Decatur Central lost, don't look at Elyas Zapata. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points. Makeil Baker was another key player, putting up eight points.

Plainfield is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Decatur Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.

Plainfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 51-38 win against Lebanon on the 1st. As for Decatur Central, they will welcome Southport at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Decatur Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season.
