Basketball Recap: Madison County Falls Despite Big Games from Lahman Carpenter and Isaiah Jones

After flying high against Stonewall Jackson last Monday, Madison County came back down to earth. The Madison County Mountaineers fell 61-48 to the Luray Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Mountaineers haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Isaiah Jones and Lahman Carpenter certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Jones went 6 for 14 en route to 16 points and five boards, while Carpenter went 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Carpenter a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Humphrey, who posted nine points and three steals.

It was another big night for Matthew Owens, who went 9 for 12 to rack up 29 points and five rebounds for Luray. The match was Owens' third in a row with at least 17 points. Jakob Choat also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Madison County's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Luray, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Strasburg the next time they take the court. Luray will host Strasburg at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Madison County will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
