Basketball Recap: Overland Comes Up Short

If Overland was feeling good fresh off their 59-24 takedown of Smoky Hill last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Overland Trailblazers lost 56-32 to the Cherry Creek Bruins on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-59 back in January.

Molly Dorighi continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cherry Creek, going 6-for-10 on her way to 18 points and four steals. What's more, Dorighi also posted a 60% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braelynn Barnett, who posted ten points and eight boards.

Overland has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Cherry Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Coming up, Overland is taking a road trip to face off against Eaglecrest at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cherry Creek, they will take on Cherokee Trail on Thursday. Cherokee Trail will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cherry Creek surely won't give up without a fight.
