Volleyball Recap: Valwood Comes Up Short

Valwood and Brookstone squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Valwood had to settle for second. They lost 3-0 to the Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Valiants of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Margaret Parks paced Valwood's offense, picking up eight kills. Parks got some help from Abby O'Neal and her 17 assists. O'Neal was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Brookstone found their leader in freshman Evangeline Gutierrez, who had 11 digs and four aces. Gutierrez is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 15 or more in each of the last 21 games she's played.

With the loss, Valwood broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 19-11. As for Brookstone, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-6.

Valwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brookstone, they will challenge St. Anne-Pacelli at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
