North Sevier hasn't had much luck against Richfield recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolves will welcome the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
North Sevier barely beat Wayne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolves put the hurt on the Badgers with a sharp 15-3 win on Saturday. Considering the Wolves have won four contests by more than ten runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Malmgren was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Malmgren was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, North Sevier got a massive performance out of Avery Taylor, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Taylor has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Quarnberg, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Richfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Altamont.
Richfield got a massive performance out of Baylee Brown, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Macie Barton was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Richfield's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for North Sevier, they moved to 5-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Sevier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Richfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Sevier might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Richfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
