Softball Game Preview: Hughesville Spartans vs. Bloomsburg Panthers

The Hughesville Spartans will face off against the Bloomsburg Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Hughesville's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while Bloomsburg has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Hughesville's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Southern Columbia Area. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Adelyn Knight was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Hughesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bloomsburg duked it out with Southern Columbia Area on Monday. The Panthers came up short against the Tigers, falling 10-4.

Mya Coyne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Kara Bodganowicz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Bloomsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Hughesville, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hughesville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bloomsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Hughesville took their win against Bloomsburg in their previous meeting on Friday by a conclusive 19-1 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
