The Jefferson Cougars are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the University Hawks at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Jefferson is headed out to face University after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Jefferson was the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Berkeley Springs on Wednesday.
Alex Danner and Liam Sager made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Danner tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sager tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Danner went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Sager scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other pitching news, Jett Gross looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Sam Hefner was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Serf Guerra was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkeley Springs only posted an OBP of .100.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but University ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out East Fairmont 10-9.
Max Cash was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cash was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colson Jenkins, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Grant Alexander, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Jefferson beat University 13-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
