Basketball Recap: Edgewood Takes a Loss

Edgewood lost against Malakoff back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Edgewood Bulldogs were beaten by the Malakoff Tigers 48-21. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 857th, while the Tigers are ranked 129th).

Edgewood got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Jackie Jackman and Taylor Thompson, who each put up eight points. Preslee Burton held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Henlee Harper took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Edgewood and nudges their season record down to 8-20. As for Malakoff, they pushed their record up to 26-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Edgewood will host Winona at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgewood is facing Winona at the right time seeing as Winona is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Malakoff, they are taking a road trip to take on Neches at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Malakoff's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Neches' offense will have their work cut out for them.
