Softball Recap: Sundown Extends Winning Streak to Six

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sundown had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Shiner Comanches with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Roughnecks, who have now won 27 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Destiny Garza made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Araceli Ibarra, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Emry Jourden was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Sundown's sixth in a row) raised their record to 33-6. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for Shiner, they moved to 30-6 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Sundown nor the Comanches have any future games scheduled.
